The Cambridge Police Department is committed to using any public safely security cameras and images captured by those cameras for lawful and legitimate purposes that will not abridge privacy and civil rights of any individual, and will take measures to ensure that the images collected and stored by these cameras are properly protected from unauthorized access or viewing. Further, the department will put into place security measures and auditing procedures to ensure that protocols are maintained with respect to the accessing of images, utilization of images for investigative and evidential purpose, and the established retention schedule or images collected and stored by these camera .Cambridge should serve as a beacon of hope and ope

Although the order by Councilor Decker is a step in good direction and a victory for privacy. It comes in the context of the NSA revelation. Prior to these revelation a few of the city councilors were ready to support such action by the police. The cloud reflects these position and not the final vote passed on 10/08/2013.
