Terms limits insure that everyone gets a chance to serve. It also prevent long term corruption and imposes on the elected candidate the pressure of getting things done. The presidency of the United States has term limits, why doesn't the city council. Furthermore Cambridge, under Plan E, is ideally positioned to implement term limits at the city council level. It assuage the fear of lost of continuity. The city manager insure continuity, the city council sets the direction. Considering the great interest in serving as city councilor, demonstrated by the very large field of candidates in the current election, it seems only fair to limit the number of time you can run. And give more people the opportunity to serve.
